On Sep. 6, 2019, invited by German Chamber of Commerce in China, Mr. Jürgen Kunzemann, Associate Director of Architectural Design & Urban Planning from OBERMEYER attended the German Smart Manufacturing Comes to Xiong’an-Forum and gave a speech with the topic “How to Build a City from Scratch”.

Mr. Kunzemann introduced the unique concepts of OBERMEYER contributed to the international consulting competition for the urban design and initial area for the Xiong’an New Area in 2017. Further Mr. Kunzemann introduced this unusual task of ‘designing a city from scratch’ by comparing the specific conditions of Xiong’an New Area and Sejong-City in South Korea. Further he elaborated the urban design ideas regarding these types of new cities, which shall start on eco-priority and sustainable development, that focuses on human principles and walkable neighborhoods and integrate high-end technology with the focus on improvement of people's livelihood.

In the following panel focusing on the topic “Exploring Innovative Concepts & Boosting the Future of Smart Cities”, Mr. Kunzemann deepened on the impact of Smart City ideas in the city development such as the implementation of intelligent materials in housing design, energy saving measurements by intelligent traffic & mobility concepts as well as the integration of smart garbage treatment in urban districts.

Adhering to advanced and comprehensive design philosophies, OBERMEYER is looking forward to support this very undertaking and see the Xiong’an new area taking shape.
