OBERMEYER Classic: Tianjin Binhai Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone Marine Science and Technology Park

The Marine Science and Technology Park emphasizes and embodies the creation of urban design elements.

Background

The Tianjin Binhai High-tech Industrial Development Zone was established in 1988 and consists of four areas: Huayuan Science and Technology Park, Marine Science and Technology Park, Bolong Lake Science and Technology Park, and Jingjin Cooperation Demonstration Zone. Among them, the Marine Science and Technology Park, planned and designed by OBERMEYER, is built based on Tianjin's abundant marine resources, national emphasis on the marine economy, location advantages, and innovative entrepreneurial environment. By constructing the science and technology park, it will promote the development of the marine science and technology industry and drive the prosperity of the marine economy.

The Marine Science and Technology Park

The Marine Science and Technology Park is the first headquarters economic project in the Tianjin Binhai New Area, consisting of 74 multi-functional buildings. It not only provides office space but also integrates various supporting facilities such as apartments, hotels, commercial areas, and exhibition halls, creating a fully functional and well-serviced modern ecological business district.

Inspired by the design concept of sunflowers, the Marine Science and Technology Park is following the language of a sunflower shape, it emphasizes and embodies the creation of urban design elements such as gateways, central areas, and corner nodes, seamlessly integrating urban functions with urban spaces, presenting a balanced and organic whole.

The two land parcels are designed with eight distinct and relatively independent office clusters, with each building having its own unique characteristics. The architectural language is concise and unified, yet it exhibits a rich variety of façade effects.

In the early 21st century, OBERMEYER, with its unique German-style minimalist design, perfectly shaped the appearance of the buildings and created diverse and flexible spaces based on different combinations. In terms of colour selection, influenced by the "Neoplasticism" of modern art, it added unique personality and characteristics to these stylistically unified buildings. To align with the theme of the Marine Science and Technology Park, the landscape design revolves around water, creating various dynamic pathways surrounding water flows. Through seamless integration with the terrain, it showcases the diverse forms of water, including streams, lakes, islands, and wetlands. The diverse landscape provides the park with a rich ecological environment, greatly preserving the local biodiversity.
