The 1st Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University
OBERMEYER won the international competition for the 1st Affiliated Hospital of WMU design at the beginning of 21st century, and it has been running from October 2012. The hospital was settled in a beautiful natural environment with rivers running around and mountain as background, which provide a peaceful place for both the patients and medical staff.
Orderliness / Natural Resources
Humanistic Care / Green Hospital
The Architecture
The hospital consists of four major function buildings parallelly arranged with corridors connecting each buildings. The enclosed spaces in between are designed to be courtyard gardens. The Architecture Design was inspired by the scenic mountains and rivers, the height variation echoes to the distant mountains, and the hollow façade structure implies the rivers nearby. The whole building group presents not only a solemn image of a hospital but also creates a casual atmosphere for the users.
The Landscape
In addition to meet the requirements of hospital functions, the design team concerns about the environment, too. The hospital is full of green elements, the landscape varies throughout the whole place. Including small woods, large lawn, walking path along the river, and small gardens next to the buildings. The design of landscape regards Humanistic Care as a vital core of importance. Very detail around the landscape is trying to dedicate to peaceful space to calm the anxiety of patients as well as release the exhaustion of the staff.
